Are You Living the Life You Imagined?

Boeing 747 Aircraft Taking OffA picture of a truck and an RV (camper) flashed across my Facebook page. The caption read: Have you ever wanted to just pack up and go? Within minutes, hundreds of people said “Yes.”

This reminded me of last year’s ad campaign by Heineken. It was called Departure Roulette. They found people in airports and asked them to push the button on a board. The board randomly selected a new destination for them. All they had to do was to trade in their ticket and go. Here is the sequel.

Would you push the button? In both cases, would you just go? Or would you make a million excuses for why you couldn’t?

Taking a risk

A woman admitted to wanting to leave her job and start a business. Her only reason for staying was for the health insurance. I told her that entrepreneurs could get health insurance. No, it’s not free but what’s the price of denying your dreams and staying in a job you hate?

Entrepreneurs are risk-takers. We like a challenge and trying new things. This is probably why you have so many creative “ADHD” types in the entrepreneurial community. Cubicles, monotony, and rigidity aren’t for us. Innovation and freedom take place when people say “Why not?”

In a recent commencement speech, Jim Carrey stated that his Dad could’ve been a great comedian but chose accounting, since it was safer. After many years of service, his Dad lost his job. Carey’s profound words were that “You can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on what you love.”

Nothing is safe. That job that you poured your heart and soul into can be gone tomorrow. So can your health. So can your life.

Taj MahalWhat’s on your bucket list?

As you get older, you become familiar with the term “bucket list”. This is a list of things you’d like to do before you die, or “kick the bucket”. The 2007 movie, Bucket List, with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, depicts 2 older men with cancer who decide that they are going to finally do the items on their bucket lists.

What would be on your bucket list? Here is a short video I made with some tips to help you do what makes your heart sing.
