In search of the gatekeeper
Have you ever seen those movies or cop shows where someone tries to bust the door down but it wasn’t really locked? It’s like in my coaching practice when people make things harder than they need to be.
They feel stuck and blame everything from the economy to the weather. Often, they assume they can’t succeed because:
– It’s too complicated.
– There are too many steps.
– I don’t have enough _________ (time, money, expertise).
– I don’t know the right people.
– I don’t live in the right area.
– It’s not the right time.
I’ve made some of these excuses myself, especially when I became injured, lost nearly everything, and had to start over. It’s easy to whine, complain, and shake your fists at the heavens. What I’ve discovered is that you have everything you need to succeed. You don’t need to find the gatekeeper. You just need to find another way to open the door.
Knock and the door shall be opened to you
If you’re feeling frustrated and stuck, it helps to take a step back. Consider these three questions:
– How do you define success?
– What’s really important to you?
– What do you really want in this stage of your life?
Everyone is different. I spent tons of money on coaching programs that didn’t really resonate with me and I didn’t use. People kept trying to peg me as a business coach but I offer way more than that. As I discuss in my book, Find Your Divine Rhythm, I also have another passion: drumming. I combine my love of drumming with healing to help people move forward. I didn’t realize I had this gift or that it was anything special, until people noticed it.
Many people have amazing gifts and talents that they ignore or aren’t fully utilizing. This also hampers your success. You need to embrace your gifts and stop waiting for permission to use them! The key to success is you! When opportunity knocks, open the door!
