What Season Are You In?

Your life, career, or business can have many different seasons. Things may begin to blossom or slow down. Which season are you in?

I was presented with this question last night in a women’s group at my church. As I looked around the room, I noticed that we were all different ages and in different stages of life. However, it wasn’t our ages that defined our seasons, it was our experiences. As we looked at seasons from a spiritual perspective, I began to think about how this applied to life in general.

If you are in the spring season of your life, things are starting to blossom and burst forth. Spring is a time for new beginnings. This could mean new ideas, a new job or business, a new project, or just transitioning into a new phase of your life.

Spring represents excitement, renewal, and rebirth.

If you are in the summer of your life, you are having fun! You’re getting the hang of things and are able to kick back and relax a bit. You’ve learned to trust, let go, and ride the waves. Maybe you’ve invited others to join in.

Summer represents hitting the “refresh button” and enjoying where you are.

If you are in the fall of your life, you are reaping the harvest from the seeds you have sown. Things are beginning to make sense. Your life, career, or business is beginning to take shape. You may feel a little restless, or even uncertain, but there’s a sense of excitement in the air.

Fall is the season that represents change and getting ready. And no, I’m not talking about football!

If you’re in the winter of your life, things have shifted for you. You may have lost your job, a family member, or a business. Perhaps you’re experiencing health issues. Things look a bit bleak and you might feel very alone. You’re holding out for better days and for the storms to pass.

Winter represents waiting. You’re in the holding pattern and hoping for spring and renewal.

To every season, there is a purpose…

As I looked back, I realized that I’ve been in all of these seasons. Though I’ve had many long, hard winters due to multiple layoffs, injuries and an illness from an accident, and having to let go of two businesses after the recession, I gained valuable insight each time. I kept my faith and belief that things would get better and they always did. Now, I have shifted into fall.

If you don’t like the season you’re in, ask yourself what do you need to change? What two steps can you start with right now? If you need help, let’s chat!
