What the World Needs Now

Life can be overwhelming. Watching the news or checking your social media feed often makes it even worse. It makes you wonder: What the heck is going on?! Where’s the love?

It’s time to rally together and it’s time for solutions. The world needs your gifts and talents now more than ever. I hate to tell you this but it’s not about you. It’s about what you can bring to the world. Have you been through something rough and want to give up? Guess what? I’ve been there and so has every creative I know. I’m still here. Yes, it’s been quite a struggle sometimes and it took a whole lot of faith, hope, and trust to get back up but I did it. Know why? I realized that my stories and my gifts can help others. And so can yours.

Light in the darkness

If we’re truly going to make a difference and create positive change, we’re going to need to really listen and pay attention, unplug from our devices, and use our talents to bless others. Have you ever been to a candlelight service? The entire room is dark. One candle is lit and is then used to light the others. Before you know it, the whole room is aglow. Someone has to light the match. The others pass their light to others.

As we learned last week, everyone hurts sometimes (Click here for a beautiful, unplugged version of this REM tune performed by The Corrs.). It can even be the person sitting right next to you. It doesn’t take much to reach out and lift someone up.

Sharing the love

You don’t need to create a major corporation or foundation to make a difference. It can be something very simple. One way to get yourself out of a funk is to do something for others. Make a positive impact and share some love! We actually have groups of entrepreneurs here in the Raleigh, NC area that were formed for that purpose. One I belong to is a called Women Leading from the Heart. The other is Giving Entrepreneurs.

If you want to create a business or craft a career with heart, I can totally help you with that. I’ve got loads of ideas and I’ve got people! In case you didn’t know, my business Rock the Next Stage was started with $40 and a crazy idea: To use drumming to help kids and adults get unstuck and heal. Before I knew it, people I barely knew were handing me checks to purchase drums to fund the program (which became known as Next Stage Drumming)! They lit the candle and I have since passed it on to loads of happy drummers.

If you’re a musician or singer, there are ways you can make a difference, too. I have an important message for you in this video about why your gifts and talents are needed NOW!

Remember the tune by Burt Bacharach and sung by Dionne Warwick? What the world needs now is love (click to listen). And it needs you!
