Forget resolutions, choosing your word of the year, doing a vision board, or suggestions on how to “magically manifest clients.” None of it worked.

You know what did? Getting clear about what was most important to me. It took an accident to help me figure that out. It happened several years ago and took three years to recover.

In order for me to heal and move forward, I needed to reset my rhythm. I discovered this when I was working with others. It first started when I was teaching a business class in a local women’s homeless shelter. I added drumming at the end because I sensed that their lives, and their rhythm, had been thrown off. They needed to find their Divine Rhythm…and so did I.

This became the start of my third business and the start of my healing. All I knew was it didn’t hurt when I drummed. I discovered that drumming has healing properties. It also brought joy. If it seems like something’s missing in your life or you’re missing the beat, these activities may help:

Jumping with paint splatters1) Listen and pay attention! What brings you joy? What activities light you up inside? How can you do more of that?

2) Get started! The only way to move your dream forward is to take action. You don’t need to know all the steps or do everything at once. Just do two things to get started. What do you need or whom can you connect with?

3) Get into the groove! Once you get started, keep going! Your efforts don’t have to be perfect. Keep the beat going and take more action steps.

4) What does your dream look like? Keeping that vision is what kept me going when I got off track or felt like giving up. I remembered why I wanted to do what I wanted to do and who I wanted to help. This helped me push past fear and the naysayers.

5) What do you need to let go of? What is no longer serving you? I needed to let go what wasn’t working in my life. I decided it was time to start thinking “What if?” What if I could do something fun and completely different? What if I could find a different way to heal? Much to my surprise, the answer was drumming.

Blessed are the flexible

The path to your dream might include similar surprises. It may also include some detours. It’s important to be open and flexible and to keep the faith. Sometimes people and opportunities appear that weren’t part of your plan. However, they can provide a much-needed solution.

Like they say, the Lord works in mysterious ways. If you would have told me four years ago that I’d be combining coaching with drumming and doing fun drumming events, I would have thought you were nuts. Writing a book to help creatives heal and earn a solid income also wasn’t on the radar back then but I accepted a challenge and decided to go for it. Amazing things happen when you find your rhythm!

How about you?
