Are Doubts and Fears Controlling You?

nervous woman biting her nailsAre you not where you want to be in your business, your career, or your life? Maybe it’s because you’re letting doubts and fears control you.

A true sign of this is if you keep switching gears. Another is taking action but only to a point. You move ahead slightly and then either panic or just plateau. As I illustrate in this quick video, reinventing yourself takes time and tends to go in phases. As an entrepreneur, I remember these phases well.

Phase 1

People who are in Phase 1 seem to want to make a move but they’re still holding onto past stories. They’ve had some setbacks and disappointments and can’t see the big picture yet. Some make excuses and don’t really believe that their plans will succeed. Others want to move forward but aren’t sure how.

Phase 2

Once you start gaining traction and seeing things start to click, you move into Phase 2. You develop a system and start believing that things will work out. This is where faith and trust begin to take hold. Your confidence grows and your personal brand begins to become clearer. This, in turn, attracts more clients and offers.

Phase 3

You have strong confidence in yourself, your abilities, and what you have to offer. When people try to deter you or criticize your efforts or ideas, you hold steady. You know that you’re on the right track and you won’t be derailed. You’ve done a substantial amount of “inner work” and aren’t as worried about the myriad of details and “what if’s.” You just keep moving forward.

I’m a serial entrepreneur. However, I started my current business when I was well past 50 and after a few major setbacks. Moving from Phase 1 to Phase 3 seemed like it took forever!

One thing that helped was to have a strong support system of encouraging, positive people. I also have had some coaches and mentors along the way. Being a creative type with 1,001 ideas, I realized I needed to develop organizational, goal-setting, and time management systems that worked. I also journal, read my Bible, and drum every morning for additional inspiration and clarity.

I have shared my systems (and my hand drumming techniques) with my clients which has caused them to move from Phase 1 to Phase 3 in a very short time (3 months or less). I didn’t want them to bang their heads against the wall like I did, so I share what worked and what didn’t. I’ve worked with people of all ages and from all different backgrounds. My specialty is creative types with ADHD traits (It takes one to know one). Seeing my clients soar has been very rewarding!
