Drumming Classes and Events

Hand drumming classes, events,
and virtual programs for kids, adults, and organizations!

A drumming class or event is a great way for your group, company, or family to beat stress and have some fun! These are just fun classes with some therapeutic elements thrown in, not drum therapy sessions, which go deeper. We always close out with a rockin’ tune that fits the age group or event!

Hand drums are provided for in-person classes and events. Social distancing will be observed. Drums are always disinfected!

For virtual classes and events: You can just tap on your legs, your desk, a drum pad, or whatever you have handy. If you’d like a djembe drum of your very own, you can purchase one here.

Hand Drumming & Fitness Classes sponsored by the town of Fuquay-Varina.
You must pre-register with the town (instructions below) but you don’t need to be a resident of Fuquay-Varina to attend. Classes are in-person at the Fuquay-Varina Community Center. Face masks are optional for those who are fully vaccinated and recommended for those who aren’t. Classes for seniors are free. Kids’ classes are $3 for residents and $5 for non-residents, until January, when we switch to 4-part classes.

Cary Classes for Special Needs Ages 11 and up: Good Vibrations: Every Wednesday in February from 4:00-4:45pm at the Page Walker Museum in Cary, NC. Therapeutic drumming class using hand drums and percussion instruments to help with focusing, hyperactivity, coordination, cooperation, listening skills, and brain integration. Class is most beneficial for those with moderate needs, although others have attended with an aide. Registration info to follow!

Not in the above age groups but interested in classes for adults? How about a 4-pack of 1-hour classes for $97? The next virtual series is Restore Your Rhythm. You’ll learn easy beats and rhythms and fun exercises to help you focus and reduce stress. Some mentoring, encouragement, affirmations, and fun homework assignments will be included. You don’t need a drum on your end (but that would be more fun! Djembe drums available for sale here, if you’d like one of your very own.). Contact me if interested in these classes or if you have any questions! I mix up the themes. I could also do in-person classes at Evangel Church in Fuquay-Varina, NC. We need at least 5 people to sign up for each series. Classes for kids and teens would be shorter in length and at a lower price. Contact me for more info!

About me: I’m a Certified Drum Therapist with the world-renown program Drums and Disabilties, I have trained with internationally-known Health Rhythms (developed by neurologist Dr. Barry Bittman, along with Remo Drums), African drummer Onye Onyemaechi, and the American Association of Christian Counselors. I’m also an experienced speaker , a percussionist, and a Toca percussion artist.

Dori has an amazing ability to capture the minds and hearts of young people! I had Dori bring her talents to a group of at-risk youth who were living in some very challenging circumstances. She was able to get their attention and get them working together in a weekly drumming session. By helping them to get focused and to relieve some stress, we were better able to work with them in the entrepreneurial projects they were working on. The kids looked forward to Dori’s sessions, and we were delighted to work with her. ~ Sheyenne Kreamer,Triangle Solutions Alliance, Raleigh, NC

Dori’s personal success story is only exceeded by her ability to help others release their own story! Drumming is one of those experiences most people never think about, and those who do often procrastinate about making an appointment out of the fear of the unknown. I was one of those! I have known and respected Dori for many years, but it wasn’t until I attended one of her free classes that I realized the true potential of drumming in my own life, and found the courage to hire her personally to help me prepare for the 40th Anniversary of my business. Dori uses drums to facilitate the power of God to release, heal, and empower. Thank you, Dori! ~ Barbara Hemphill, President, Productive Environment Institute, Raleigh, NC
