Finding the Music Within You

I’m going to keep it real here. Are you using the talents God gave you? Are you using them to bless others? How much longer are you going to wait?

If you’ve been following me on Facebook or Instagram, you know I said goodbye to a drummer friend of mine recently. He had what he thought was the flu. It turned into pneumonia and then suddenly…he was gone. I attended his memorial service last weekend. He was probably the best drummer I’ve ever played with and a joy for this percussionist to follow. He played in multiple bands and also church bands. Dave made the most of the music within him.

The questions above are actually questions that Dave’s pastor posed. It certainly puts things in perspective doesn’t it?

It’s your time to rise up!

Success is often a matter of timing. I have been on this planet long enough to know that you will have different missions or Divine Assignments in your lifetime. When the timing is right, things will start to pop.

So what do you want to accomplish this year? What is it that tugs on your heartstrings? What idea keeps coming back to you? Who keeps entering your space?

If people are coming to you now and asking where they can find your music or your artwork or they’re asking you for advice or for a particular service (web design, coaching, speaking, etc.) then…Hello! Help them now!

There is a reason they are reaching out to you. Pay attention! If you keep passing on opportunities or ignoring these requests, guess what? You just missed out on the opportunity to bless someone. God will give the opportunity to someone else. Don’t listen to the naysayers! Keep going! It’s time to rise up and rock!

The beat goes on

I remember when I first discovered that hand drumming is more than just fun. It can help people get unstuck and heal. I thought people would think I was nuts so I put that idea on the back burner, even though I saw remarkable results on myself and others. Now, there are loads of studies touting the benefits of therapeutic drumming. Some people may not get it but you know what? I don’t care! I’m a Musician on a Mission. I know my Why and what I’m supposed to do with my gifts. Do you?

If so, then you need to get serious and stop treating your talent, your business, or your mission like a hobby. You need to treat it like a business. That means presenting yourself professionally.

This includes effective branding: website (with bio and decent photos. If you’re a musician you also need to have links to your tunes.), business cards, updated (and active) social media profiles, a professional email signature and voicemail message, etc.
