Have You Given Yourself Permission to Succeed?

Lady waiting on subway station platform.Have you given yourself permission to succeed? It sounds silly, doesn’t it? I’ve heard plenty of excuses why people aren’t where they want to be. Heck, I’ve made them myself. Deep down, there may be something else going on. Sometimes what’s really going on is that you don’t feel you deserve:

1) To use your gifts and do what you love.
2) To make more money.
3) To be successful.
4) To be in a good relationship.
5) To be happy.
6) To be loved.

Somewhere along the line something skewed your perception of yourself and pushed you into denial mode. Maybe your “money story” is preventing you from earning what you’re worth. It could have been handed down to you from your parents, your spouse or significant other, or even from your church or religious organization.

In my case, I had convinced myself that making more money wasn’t Christian. Using my gifts of healing and intuition? Also not Christian. Well, this is what some churches believe. Forget the fact that Jesus and his disciples practiced what is now called “energy medicine”. So, I held back. But that gnawing feeling that something wasn’t right continued.

You may not even be aware of what’s going on. But you keep sabotaging yourself, going in circles, and suffering from “paralysis by analysis”. You may move forward but only to a point or you may retreat back. What’s really getting in the way of your happiness and success…is you.

Maybe it’s the business that you’re not starting or growing, or relationships you’re not pursuing (both professional and personal). Isn’t it time to get off the platform and onto the train?

Next Stage Drumming_bannerGaining clarity and healing

Last weekend, I decided I needed to practice what I preach and signed up for a drum healing workshop led by African drum healer and fellow Christian, Onye Onyemaechi. Some highly intuitive people have given me the title of “drum healer” but I wasn’t sure I was comfortable using this title or if I had truly earned it. After all, I’m not African. I’m just “Dori the Drum Chick”.

However, since I believe that our gifts come from God, who am I to deny the gift and joy of drumming? I cannot explain how I have the gift of rhythm and why I really love music from different genres and countries. I’ve had this gift since I was a kid and have been surprising people ever since. I have also had spiritual gifts of healing and intuition but I kept those hidden. I didn’t understand why I had them or what I was supposed to do with them. Until now.

As I wrote in my book, Finding Your Divine Rhythm, drumming recently helped me heal from an accident and pulled me out of a very dark place. I developed techniques to help others heal as well. At the drum healing workshop, I closed my eyes, followed the beats, and just listened for Divine directions. My intuition, which was once dormant, became reactivated.

The vibrations created by a roomful of drummers and singers filled the room with a Divine presence. We then witnessed amazing and powerful healing among some of the participants. It was then that I realized that it was time to give myself permission to become a drum healer.
