What’s wrong with this picture?
What do you see in this photo? You may think that these people are about to see a bunch of hot air balloons take flight. Guess what? The balloons never took off.
I took this shot at a recent event in my town. Yes, the balloons looked awesome, especially when they were fired up and glowing. Unfortunately, the festival organizers decided not to allow the balloons to go any higher, due to possible winds in the upper atmosphere and a possible storm. Keep in mind, there wasn’t a stitch of wind near the ground and the storm never came (Yes, I know. Safety first. Work with me, here!). The balloons looked great but they weren’t fulfilling their intended purpose.
What’s weighing you down?
These balloons are a lot like people I’ve worked with or met. They may have a pretty website, glossy photos, and nice business cards but they’re not launching. They’re waiting until everything is perfect or maybe they’re waiting for permission.
Some have great ideas but they’re all over the place. They can’t seem to figure out what they need to start with, so they keep going in circles. What I really want to know is…what’s in the suitcase?
What do you keep hauling around with you that’s preventing you from moving forward? Is it regret? Disappointment? Or is it fear?
Confusion doesn’t come from God, that’s for sure. It’s a great way to trip up those who have the potential to make a difference with their gifts and talents and with their business or ministry. A confused mind will never move forward.
What if you refused to take no for answer? What if you came back on the following day (Balloon rides for the public were actually in the morning.) and decided that you were going to sign up for a balloon ride? You knew the ticket price was expensive but you also knew it would be an experience of a lifetime. You climbed into the basket. Part of you was trembling in fear, because, let’s face it, those balloons go up pretty high.
You didn’t stay on the ground taking photos of the balloons like everyone else. You didn’t listen to the people you passed on the way to the balloons who chided you by saying “Who do you think you are?!” Nope. You got into that balloon basket, you watched as the pilot dropped the ropes holding the sand bags, and….you took off. And the view was glorious!
That’s what I want for you. That’s what God wants for you. Don’t let anyone hold you back. You were given your gifts for a reason. If not now, when?
1) Focus on your dream.
2) Start putting action steps onto your calendar.
3) Clear the clutter (mental, physical, and on your calendar). If it’s not helping you move forward, get rid of it.
4) If you need help, reach out!
