Ready to Hit Your Goals?

Many people make New Year’s resolutions. Guess the percentage of people who actually keep them? Only 8%!

An article by NBC News revealed the top resolutions for 2017. The data was pulled from Google by iQuanti. Take a peek:

• Get Healthy (this included “getting fit”)
• Get Organized
• Live Life to the Fullest
• Learn New Hobbies
• Spend Less/Save More
• Travel

The problem with most resolutions is that they’re just wishes. For example, I’ve noticed that my local gym is packed every January but empties out by the end of February. People sign up because they want to lose weight but they don’t have a system and the mindset in place to actually make that happen.

How can you make and set goals that will stick?

1) Be realistic! I’ve had business and ADHD coaching clients who thought they could sign up for just one or two hours. They’ve been struggling for years but just want a quick fix. It’s not possible. They need something much more comprehensive and they have to be willing to do the work.

2) Carve out blocks of time! How have I managed to swim 26 laps (52 lengths) at the gym 3-4 times a week for the past 10 years? I carve out time. This is how I wrote my book and my online training program for musicians. If you really want to do something, you don’t make excuses. You make time.

3) Be specific! The problem with the above resolutions is that they’re way too vague and only scratch the surface. Live life to the fullest? What would that mean for you?

4) Set a deadline! “Someday” isn’t on the calendar. When do you plan on starting your goal and what is the anticipated completion date? Don’t wait for “perfect!” Just start! I kept putting off doing an online video training program for ages because I didn’t have the budget or the gear to make the videos super-professional. But I did it anyway.

5) Pick a system that you’ll stick with! How are you going to map out your goals and track them? My current system is half “techie” and half “old school” but it works for me.

6) Admit when you need help! Who or what do you need to help you move forward? Let’s get serious. If you know you have trouble reaching your goals, don’t go it alone. Reach out. Click here if you’re ready to crank it up in 2017!
