Are You Taking Time for YOU?

Fuel indicatorAre you running on empty? If you’re rushing around in your business, your job, or with your kids, you may be feeling tapped out right now.

Add an overbooked schedule and triple-digit temperatures to the mix and you have the recipe for a complete meltdown. You know you need a break. You know you need to get away to clear your head, back away from technology for a while, and just have some fun. The question is: Do you?

I’m not advocating racking up $20,000 of credit card debt to take a month-long excursion to Bali. I’m merely suggesting that you take a break. It could be for a couple of days or a couple of weeks. Just go. Do something that you’ve always wanted to do. What would that be? Feel free to leave a comment below.

The ads popped up on Facebook for months. I told myself “That looks so cool but I don’t have the money or the time to do that.” So, I resigned myself to the fact that this was not my year to check out the Asheville Percussion Festival in the mountains of beautiful Asheville, NC. “Maybe next year”, I told myself.

However, I’m having a “Murphy’s Law” kind of month with the print version of my book, I’ve got numerous people tugging at me for my time and talents, and I’m juggling way too many plates. I also remembered that I’ve turned down at least 4 opportunities to advance my drum training. This one features well-known percussionists from all over the world, offering performances and workshops, and of course, gorgeous views.

I knew in my heart that I needed to go. Some fellow drummers posted info about a special discount for members of a group that we’re in. So, I clicked the link, found a great hotel deal, and I signed up. I began hearing the drumming in this commercial from the Asheville tourist board in my head. The music of my people was calling. It was time to finally say “Yes!” and answer the call.

How about you? Are you taking care of everyone and everything but forgetting about yourself. Isn’t it time to take a break?
