The Question that Can Change Your Life

There is one question that is the foundation of creative ideas, businesses, and inventions. It has the power to ignite a dream and change your life. The question is “What if..?”

The spark

It may start as a tiny spark; an idea that pops into your head and keeps reappearing. You have to make the decision to nurture the spark…or ignore it and let it die. What I have found is that when you ignore it, it will keep eating away at you. If you don’t do anything with it, God may give the idea to someone else. Like they say: You snooze, you lose.

If you tend to it and see the possibilities, the spark grows and begins to burn brightly. You have to be careful not to douse the spark with negative “What if’s,” as this will surely stop you in your tracks.

Your idea doesn’t have to be earth-shattering but it does have to excite you. It may be a complete change or just a slight modification. It doesn’t even have to be 100% original but it does have to be 100% you.

It could be a new job, a new city, a new hobby or activity, a new business, or finally deciding to take your talent to the next level. I’ve had several “What if’s” that turned into businesses. As I mentioned in my last post, my most recent “What if” involved figuring out if I could use drumming to help me and others heal. Much to my surprise, it worked very quickly. I was able to bring my love of drumming into my coaching business. It’s an unusual combination but it works.

In order to keep the fire burning, you can’t just leave the idea on a shelf. Get those ideas out of your head and write them down! It also helps to ask yourself the following:

1) What would it take for you to get started right now (even if it’s just on a part-time basis)?

2) What would happen if you didn’t move forward with this idea? If you have a sinking feeling right about now, that means you shouldn’t let the spark die!

3) How much do you want it? On a scale from 1-10, is your desire a tepid 4 or a raging 10?

This is a great time of year to start thinking about what you really want to do in this stage of your life. Do you want to continue on the same, boring keel? Or do you want to rock?!
