Is it time to make a change or shift gears? Maybe it’s something that’s been tugging at you for a while or maybe you have no choice. Something may have happened in your life that turned your world upside down. It may have been a layoff, transfer, divorce, or even the passing of a spouse or loved one.
In my social circles of entrepreneur and musician friends, it seems like this is a common theme. It’s also very prevalent within the groups of women who come out to my therapeutic drumming classes.
What you need to help you move forward
What I’ve found with entrepreneurs and creatives who feel stuck or who are under-earning is that they think they just need some more biz tips. Or one more coaching program. Or 20 more free webinars or workshops. They keep accumulating information but they don’t do anything with it!
This was often the case back when I was a business coach. Heck, I even whipped out my credit card for programs and workshops thinking that more tips would be better. Guess what? It often caused information overload and made me feel even more overwhelmed.
In my last blog post about the importance of feedback, I mentioned that I sent a survey to my newsletter list. Guess what they wanted more of? Free biz tips. Oy vey! Did I mention they’ve been getting that for five years?!
Ok, I’m going to keep it real here. If you’re not moving forward, you don’t need more biz tips. You need to find out what’s preventing you from moving forward. And guess what helps unlock that?
Therapeutic drumming. When I realized that my coaching clients needed to drum with me first, things began to shift. It not only helped them gain more clarity and confidence, it also helped me. So, I pivoted and began focusing on offering just drumming. And things finally took off – for them and for me.
Signs that you need to pivot
1. Your rhythm is off. Things don’t seem to be lining up for you or you just don’t feel comfortable where you are. You’re trying to make it work but it doesn’t feel natural.
2. You’ve hit a wall. You feel burned out, frustrated, or overwhelmed, or all 3. You’re pretending everything is ok. Except it’s not.
3. You’re feeling resentful. This happens if you’re donating your time and talents too much or if the clients or fans aren’t showing up, even though you’ve invested loads of time and money.
4. Something’s tugging at you. Maybe it’s an idea or a dream. You keep trying to dismiss it or put it on the back burner but it keeps popping up. It may appear in your dreams or in a song. That’s a strong nudge from God, my friend. The question is: What are you going to do about it?
